The Contemporary Art Society invited Blood members to a Friday evening visit to three exhibition spaces in the East End's Redchurch Street. The evening included challenging art, curator-led tours of all three shows, and ended with drinks in the VIP area of Loungelover.

6:30pm
We met at Vegas Gallery (64-66 Redchurch Street), an artist-run project space and platform for showing works by emerging artists. The current show - Flyapart features unique and eclectic work by artists graduated from the Norwich School of Art. The curator talked about the work on show - ranging from fine art to comic books - and the artists who make the work, with questions afterwards over a glass of wine. More information: www.vegasgallery.co.uk

7:00pm
Museum 52 (52 Redchurch Street), easily located because of its innovative artist-designed sign, has a reputation as one of the most exciting young galleries in London. It started as a project space in one of the directors' homes and is now, in the same venue, a fully fledged gallery carefully watched by international collectors. Melissa Emery, Gallery Manager (and curator of the exterior sign project) at Museum 52 introduced the current solo exhibition Kon Trubkovich: Work Study in which the artist explores the anomalies of the human condition and the futility of work (a topic well suited for a Friday evening) through multiple mediums - film, watercolour, screen prints, oil painting and sculptural work.

7:30pm
studio 1.1 (57a Redchurch Street) is another artist-run space. The solo show Cees Krijnen: the Stowaway features work which he has made for his mother - Greta Blok. Since her divorce from his father 5 years ago, after a 17-year struggle, Krijnen’s work has focused on his mother and as a result the celebrity status of Greta Blok and Krijnen's Oedipal impulses have intensified. In the past, among many other activities and artworks, he has commissioned perfumers to design a scent, and orchestrated a marriage ceremony between Greta Blok and herself. Krijnen launched a CD single about his mother Greta during the exhibition. Blood members had the opportunity to chat to the gallery directors about the work on show over drinks and nibbles. 8:00pm
After the gallery crawl we retreated to the VIP area at Loungelover specially booked for Blood members to have a chat about art, to unwind, and enjoy a drink in a slightly...eccentric setting.
