Lu Chunsheng at The Red Mansion Foundation, Thursday 3 April 2008, 7.00- 8.30pm

Blood members were invited to a very special viewing of the first solo retrospective of Lu Chunsheng including a tour and conversation by Nicolette Kwok (Director of the Red Mansion Foundation). Promoting the artistic exchange between China and Great Britain, The Red Mansion Foundation co-produced a series of exhibitions entitled China Power Station, held at Battersea Power Station in 2006 in which Lu Chunsheng featured prominently.

Lu Chungsheng's work consists of brooding films and nostalgic photographs which appear pre-occupied with an industrial era and Communist history; he develops an oeuvre where the characters depicted (either photographically or on film) find themselves in strange and alien situations. This absurdity is heightened in his Water series where a character stands motionless whilst a pool of water grows around his feet. The occurrence is documented in progressive stages and does not offer any recognisable plot or explanation.

Lu Chunsheng's other recent exhibitions include China Contemporary, Art, Architecture and Visual Culture at Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam (2006), The Thirteen: Chinese Video Now, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, Long Island City, NY, USA (2006).

Please note: This event is by invite only and RSVP is essential. You can only RSVP from your own personal invite sent to you by email. Become a Blood member today to receive your invite.
