Sunday in Bethnal Green: Modern Art, MOT and IBID Projects

On the first really hot day of this year, we went to deepest Bethnal Green. Starting with a fabulous brunch at Bistroteque, we saw Lisa Oppenheim's videos at Modern Art, got an introduction to respected art project MOT from its director Chris Hammond (hard to find in a backstreet studio high-rise, but definitely worth it when you get there), and finished off with a sculpture show by Anthea Hamilton at IBID Projects.

Blood goes to Berlin: Biennial + tour of new Berlin galleries

Berlin is arguably Europe’s hippest city and a major art destination, attracting artists, bohemians and clubbers alike. 20 Blood members went on Blood’s second trip to Berlin in May, coinciding with the 4th Berlin Biennial for contemporary art.

Blood tour: Culture Bound at the Courtauld Institute
Wednesday 26 April 7pm-8.30pm, followed by drinks at One Aldwych
The Courtauld Institute is well known for its art history education and its collections of late 19th and early 20th century European paintings and drawings. Its student-curated contemporary art programme is much less publicised, which we thought was a bit of a hidden gem…so April ’s Blood event took us on a tour of contemporary art throughout the corridors, lecture rooms and offices of the Courtauld.

Evening reception for collectors at COLLECT art fair

Organised by the British Crafts Council, COLLECT is the only art fair in Europe that showcases the very best of contemporary applied and decorative arts from around the world. This special evening reception hosted by Arts Council England brought together collectors from a broad spectrum of partnering organizations.

Blood gallery tour in Hoxton: Kate MacGarry, Trolley and Bischoff/Weiss

Kate MacGarry, one of the most influential contemporary art gallerists in London, met us to introduce new work by Matt Bryans. At Trolley, we saw an exhibition by David Fryer, Robert Montgomery and Sean Flynn, three close friends in the wake of Fryer's death in 2004. At Bischoff/Weiss we met artist Maya Hewitt, who covered the walls of the gallery with her startling collages and transform the space into a life-size version of a children’s pop-up book.

ARTfutures2005 Artists' Party at Bloomberg SPACE

ARTfutures is the exciting way to begin or extend a contemporary art collection. Organised annually by Contemporary Art Society, this year's exhibition featured over 1000 works by around 150 artists, each piece individually selected by a team of independent curators, including some of the most collectable contemporary art being made today. Pilot:2 Champagne Preview

Pilot:2 showcased 100 artists in a not-for-profit independent forum for emerging artists who do not have commercial representation and independent curators. Pilot:2 is designed to be a platform, research tool and catalyst, where information is exchanged and contacts made between artists, curators, collectors and gallerists. It offers a unique model of viewing and researching new innovative and risk-taking work. Blood members were invited to this special champagne preview where the team of artists and curators led a tour of the exhibition and archive.
