About Blood
Blood emerged on London's art scene in the spring of 2002, working to give new art lovers and emerging collectors an insight into the world of contemporary art through tours and talks around the capital.
Contemporary implies change. Contemporary art is about really pushing things forward and opening up new alleyways of thought and expression.
As well as expressing new ideas, the medium is changing, encompassing film, dance, sound and space. In response, galleries continually alter the way they exhibit. The clean white wall is now accompanied by an assortment of warehouses, living rooms, caravans and car parks. Art has become decentralised and unpredictable.
Initiated and run under the aegis of the Contemporary Art Society, Blood is an events-based membership club. Events are organised by Silvia Denaro, Contemporary Art Society's Collector Development Coordinator, who ensures the high quality of the art we see.
Blood keeps tab on London's ever-changing contemporary art scene.
We organise monthly events for our members tailored to highlight the diversity of contemporary art practice. Our signature event in London is a gallery tour: we meet on a weekday evening to visit 3 galleries out-of-hours, allowing more exclusive access than a typical private view or guided tour. We are met by a gallerist, curator or artist who gives a brief talk, followed by time for you to wander the space, ask questions, discuss opinions or just concentrate on your wine. After the galleries we move on to a bar or pub in the vicinity. We find somewhere a bit special that reflects the evening's endeavours - an artists' haunt or sometimes a place that has an interesting art collection of its own.
As a Blood member, you will also be invited to exclusive art events such as private views of art fairs.
Contemporary art instigates psychological, political and social issues as well as questioning itself in the process. No one can tell you what to like or why you like it but Blood can at least drop a few hints.
